Toxins. The word conjures up skull and crossbone images doesn’t it? You might be sitting there thinking that since you don’t work in one of those labs where everyone wears hazmat suits and everything has a skull and crossbones sign on it you’re far far away from toxins. If that’s what you’re thinking….you’re wrong.

According to the Toronto Indoor Air Conference of 1990, as a result of a higher rate of exposure to toxic chemicals in common household products, women who are stay-at-home moms have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than those who work outside the home.

I’ll give that a minute to sink in.

Guys, we are poisoning ourselves living in toxic homes, using toxic cleaning supplies, breathing toxic air (did you know the air quality indoors is worse than outdoors?), using toxic beauty supplies and more.

The good news is we have the power to undo this damage. We do not need to become a statistic. If you’re reading this and you’re NOT a stay at home mom and you think you’re safe think again.

Why?

Each time you pump gas you inhale benzene, which increases your cancer risk and damages your DNA.

Each time you eat conventionally grown foods you take in pesticides and herbicides. High arsenic levels have been found in rice and apple juice and high cadmium levels have been found in soy products.

Every time the cashier hands you a receipt you quickly absorb toxic BPA’s, increasing your cancer risk and disrupting your endocrine system.

Even if you don’t work from home I’m assuming you do hang around there from time to time? Probably sleep there? Eat some meals there and whatnot? Unfortunately, your home is covered in chemicals. The paint on your walls slowly off gasses each day and your couches, mattresses and child’s pajamas are doused in flame retardants which you then absorb into your skin AND inhale every single day. Not to mention the formaldehydes and sealants and foams and glues used in building construction that are continuously off gassing as well.

Personal care products are full of endocrine disrupting phthalates and artificial fragrances and much more and we are slathering them all over our entire bodies every single day.

Over 6.5 billion pounds of chemicals are released into the air each year….and where do you think that goes? It doesn’t disappear I can promise you that. It’s here, it’s in our air, it’s in our water, it’s everywhere. Did you know that living under the flight path of an airport can increase your risk of lead contamination? Lead is in 70% of US airplane fuel and over 500 metric tons of lead are released each year from airplanes alone. Ugh.

Dr Joseph Pizzorno’s book The Toxin Solution has a chart titled “percent of population with doubled risk of disease due to specific toxins”. Smoking puts 12% of the population  at a doubled risk of developing lung cancer. But guess what? That PALES IN COMPARISON to the toxins we deal with on a daily basis in our air, food, water, and more. Check out a few of these stats…

PAHs affect 94% of the population’s risk for asthma.

PCB 187, 60% of the population has a double risk of breast cancer.

Phthalates, 55% of the population has a doubled risk of diabetes.

Lead, 33% of the population has a doubled risk of ALS.

DDT, 25% of the population has ADHD.

PCBs, 25% of the population has a doubled risk of diabetes.

Dioxin like PCBs, 25% of the population has a doubled risk of RA.

Arsenic 23% of the population has a doubled risk of gout.

BPA, 22% of the population has a doubled risk of diabetes.

Arsenic, 20% of the population has a doubled risk of diabetes.

PAHs, 20% of the population has a doubled risk of diabetes.
